In a recent interview with Nylon, Zayn Malik opened up about sharing custody of his 3-year-old daughter, Khai, with his ex-girlfriend, Gigi Hadid. Malik admitted that he only has his daughter 50 percent of the time but wishes he could have her more. He shared that they enjoy activities such as going to Disney on Ice, the Nickelodeon theme park, or the beach when they are together. Malik reflected on how he didn’t take much time to get to know himself between the ages of 21 to 27 when he was with Gigi and they had a child together.
After welcoming their first child, a source revealed that Malik and Hadid grew even closer and were loving parenthood. Hadid was said to be enjoying every moment with their daughter while Malik was appreciating being a father. In 2021, Malik faced legal issues when he was charged with four criminal offenses of harassment following an altercation with Gigi’s mother. He pleaded no contest to the charges and was fined, put on probation, assigned anger management classes, and a domestic violence program. It was also confirmed that Gigi and Malik had split up.
Despite their split, Malik clarified that he and Gigi have a good co-parenting relationship and expressed his desire to be a good example for their daughter. He shared that he feels anxious about having conversations like the one in the interview, but wants Khai to see that he is doing his best for her. Malik discussed how his upbringing in Bradford influenced his approach to dating, revealing that his parents were old-school and he didn’t have a girlfriend until later on in life. He emphasized the importance of taking time before fully investing in a lifelong partner.
