Courtney Perrone, a 39-year-old woman from California, was arrested for pretending to be a Russian police officer in an attempt to kidnap an 8-year-old child in a Santa Monica alley while the child was helping a neighbor put dogs in a car. The neighbor, known as Uncle Markie to the child, witnessed Perrone approaching claiming to be there to save the child and trying to grab her. Despite having lipstick all over her face and appearing disheveled, Perrone engaged in a tug of war with the neighbor over the child.
Following the failed kidnapping attempt, Perrone tried to pull the child out of the car and then flashed a switchblade, which prompted her to flee the scene. Fortunately, the child was unharmed during the incident. Perrone was charged by the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office with attempted kidnapping of a minor under 14, false imprisonment by force, and assault with a deadly weapon, with a maximum sentence of six and a half years in prison. She is currently being held on a $135,000 bail.
Perrone has a history of run-ins with the law, having been previously arrested by the Los Angeles Police Department for assault with a deadly weapon. Despite this, she was released due to insufficient evidence. In addition, she has been arrested in other states for various charges such as assault and battery, resisting arrest, possession of controlled substances, and trespassing. Perrone has outstanding warrants in New Hampshire for stalking and is currently on probation in Nevada after being convicted of assault with a deadly weapon.
