Lizzette Zambrano, a woman from El Paso County, Texas, has filed a wrongful-death lawsuit against two Mexican resort travel companies seeking more than $1 million in damages following the tragic death of her husband, Jorge Guillen. Zambrano named vacation rental companies Casago LLC, Casago International LLC, and High Desert Travel Inc., which operated Sonoran Sea Resort, where the couple was staying at the time of the incident. She accused the companies of gross negligence and called for them to take accountability for her husband’s death.

The lawsuit details the couple’s last moments together before Guillen was electrocuted in a resort hot tub. As soon as Guillen entered the tub, he was exposed to an electrical current in the water, causing him to keel over and be taken under the surface. Zambrano attempted to rescue him but was also shocked in the process. It took ten minutes before staff members at the resort intervened and began to assist in rescuing Guillen, who ultimately drowned as a result of the electrocution.

Guillen was remembered by family and friends as a man with a “heart of gold” who was always there for his loved ones. A GoFundMe page was set up for the couple to help cover expenses related to the tragic accident. However, Casago denied responsibility for the incident, stating that the homeowners’ association was responsible for the maintenance of common areas at the resort, including the swimming pool and hot tubs. The vacation rental company claimed they were not involved in the management or maintenance of the resort.

Despite Casago’s denial of responsibility, Zambrano is seeking justice for her husband’s death and has called for the companies to take accountability for the tragic incident. According to the lawsuit, no action was taken by the defendants to engage the emergency shut off for the jacuzzi or to attempt to rescue either Guillen or Zambrano in a timely manner. The lawsuit alleges that Guillen was electrocuted and drowned underwater for ten minutes before any staff members at the resort stepped in to assist.

Zambrano expressed her desire for someone to take accountability for what happened to her husband and herself during their vacation at Sonoran Sea Resort. Witness statements included in the lawsuit describe the chaotic scene that unfolded as bystanders attempted to rescue Guillen, with some being shocked as well due to the electrical current in the water. The lawsuit aims to hold the companies operating the resort accountable for what Zambrano describes as a preventable tragedy that claimed the life of her husband.
