Washington state leaders have launched a new website called FundHubWA that compiles federal and state grants, tax incentives, and rebates available to individuals and organizations looking to implement climate friendly technologies. The website pulls together opportunities from three federal laws as well as Washington’s Climate Commitment Act, which charges the state’s largest polluters for their emissions and allocates the money to climate programs.

The FundHubWA website allows users to search for funding opportunities based on different categories such as energy infrastructure and manufacturing. For example, a search under the “energy infrastructure” category as a “utility” brought up options like a U.S. Department of Energy program that provides grants for developing solar energy hardware and software. Another search as a “business” in the “manufacturing” category returned programs offering tax incentives for clean energy projects such as alternative fuel production, sustainable aviation, nuclear power production, and other low-carbon technologies.

Governor Jay Inslee emphasized the importance of not missing out on funding opportunities due to lack of awareness. He stated that the portal offers an easy way for individuals and organizations to browse for funding that could help them improve their home, business, or community. Earlier this year, a group supporting the Climate Commitment Act released an interactive map showcasing the programs being funded across the state with money collected through the act.

However, in November, Washington residents will vote on Initiative 2117, which aims to eliminate the Climate Commitment Act. Those backing the initiative argue that the act is contributing to increased gas prices in the state. The future of the Climate Commitment Act and its impact on funding opportunities for climate-friendly technologies remain uncertain as residents prepare to vote on its elimination.

Overall, FundHubWA serves as a valuable resource for individuals, businesses, tribal groups, nonprofits, and government agencies looking to access funding for implementing and developing climate-friendly technologies. By consolidating federal and state grants, tax incentives, and rebates, the website aims to make it easier for users to find opportunities that can support their efforts to combat climate change and promote sustainability in Washington state.
