Joe Alfredo Maldonado, an El Salvadoran man living in the United States illegally, was arrested by deportation officers on May 14 in Manassas, Virginia after being convicted of sexual battery against a Virginia woman. ICE officials stated that Maldonado’s actions have proven him to be a significant threat to the residents of Virginia communities, emphasizing the need to keep violent criminals from victimizing neighborhoods. Maldonado entered the U.S. illegally at an unknown date and location without inspection, admission, or parole by a U.S. immigration official.
Maldonado’s criminal history in the U.S. includes being arrested for driving while intoxicated in April 2014, for which he was convicted and sentenced to 30 days in jail. In April 2020, he was arrested again by the Prince William County Police Department for felony forcible sodomy, by force, threat, etc., on a victim aged 13 or older. He was convicted in January 2021 and sentenced to 364 days in jail. Despite immigration authorities attempting to lodge a detainer request with the Prince William County Adult Detention Center in April 2020, Maldonado was released before it could be submitted.
