Hoang Van Ty expressed his shock at the extent of flooding outside his home in Thai Nguyen province. The flood waters had submerged his house, leaving his clothes and furniture underwater. Despite the devastation, he was relieved that he had managed to close the doors in time to prevent anything from being washed away. Thai Nguyen province is where Samsung Electronics operates its largest smartphone manufacturing plant in Vietnam, and efforts to clean up and rebuild are underway now that the flood waters have receded in some areas.

The disaster management agency reported that over 200,000 hectares of rice and cash crop fields in Thai Nguyen province had been inundated by landslides and floods caused by the typhoon. Additionally, power supplies were disrupted, and the roofs of several factories in Haiphong and Quang Ninh provinces were blown off, halting production. In response to the crisis, countries such as Australia, Japan, and the United States announced plans to send aid to Vietnam to assist with the recovery efforts.

The impact of Typhoon Yagi extended beyond Vietnam, affecting neighboring countries such as Laos, Thailand, and Myanmar. Deadly landslides and widespread river flooding were reported in these regions, with the Mekong River Commission issuing a flood warning for the historic Laotian city of Luang Prabang. In Thailand, the death toll rose to eight, with additional fatalities from a landslide in Chiang Mai province. Mae Sai district on the Thai-Myanmar border faced its worst flooding in 80 years, according to a senior interior ministry official.

The Mekong River, a crucial waterway in Southeast Asia, is expected to reach flood levels in Luang Prabang, a UNESCO world heritage site, causing concern for residents and authorities in the region. The devastating impact of the floods has resulted in significant loss of life and damage to infrastructure in Laos, Thailand, and Myanmar.
