Teammate Yevhenii Korinets, who also served in the war and suffered life-changing injuries, expressed admiration for Melnyk’s dedication to both his military service and Paralympic sports. Despite the challenges they face, the Ukrainian team remains proud to have Melnyk alongside them in Paris. Korinets, who lost his leg in a mine blast, expressed his desire to continue serving his country if given the opportunity. The Ukrainian team’s first match did not end in victory, as they were defeated in three straight sets by Iran.
