A group of teenagers in Brooklyn attacked an Uber driver, causing injuries that included a broken nose and a gash on his head. The kids, aged between 11 and 17, filmed the assault on the driver with a cell phone. One of the assailants reportedly had a gun and demanded money from the driver during the attack.
The incident occurred when the driver arrived on Alabama Street in East Flatbush to pick up a female passenger named Precious. Upon arriving, he noticed a group of teens nearby and asked if they knew his fare. When he turned his head to look for his client, he was unexpectedly punched through his open window.
In response to the attack, the driver exited his car to defend himself and noticed that one of the teens was filming the altercation. A scuffle ensued, during which he was struck in the head with a scooter, causing him to fall to the ground. The attackers fled the scene when a neighbor called 911. The neighbor also found a phone used by the teens, which contained a video of the victim.
Two of the kids returned to the scene while the driver was waiting for an ambulance, indicating that they were looking for the phone. The driver warned them that the police were on their way, prompting the teens to flee. It remains unclear whether the attackers intended to rob the driver or if they were simply filming the incident for a TikTok video. The NYPD has released photos of the suspects to aid in their identification and apprehension.
The fare, Precious, was shocked by the incident and captured video footage of the teens returning to the scene. She expressed her disappointment at the actions of the young perpetrators, stating that she was heartbroken by their behavior. The victim, who has chosen to remain anonymous out of fear of retaliation, recounted the traumatic experience of being attacked by a group of teenagers while simply trying to do his job as an Uber driver.
