In a viral video, former President Donald Trump was seen vowing to terminate the Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as “Obamacare,” despite reversing his position on the issue last month. Trump, who is expected to be the 2024 GOP presidential nominee, has repeatedly promised to repeal the ACA since he began his political career. However, in a late March post on Truth Social, Trump appeared to endorse the ACA and pledged to improve the program during a potential second term, rather than eliminate it as previously stated.

President Joe Biden’s campaign responded to Trump’s stance on the ACA, accusing him of attempting to make cuts to Social Security and Medicare along with repealing the ACA. Biden vowed not to allow Trump to terminate the ACA, highlighting that 45 million people currently have coverage through the Obamacare exchanges or Medicaid expansion. Trump’s previous efforts to repeal the ACA through the courts have been unsuccessful, with the Supreme Court rejecting multiple attempts. Despite Trump’s previous criticism of Obamacare as “not good healthcare,” he now aims to make it “much, much, much better” in a shift from his earlier stance.

The video showcasing Trump’s past statements on terminating Obamacare has garnered attention on social media, with over 225,000 views as of Saturday afternoon. The Biden-Harris campaign shared the video on X, emphasizing Trump’s consistent promises to repeal the ACA since 2016. Trump’s comments on Obamacare have been in the spotlight following his recent endorsement of the program on Truth Social, where he outlined his intention to improve it for American citizens at a lower cost, blaming Biden for various challenges faced by the nation.

Trump’s evolving position on the ACA has been met with criticism from Democrats and other opponents, who have accused him of flip-flopping on the issue. Despite Trump’s initial efforts to repeal Obamacare shortly after taking office, he was thwarted by Republicans in the Senate who resisted the move. Trump has portrayed his new stance on the ACA as part of a broader platform focused on border control, economic growth, military strength, and improving healthcare for Americans. As he gears up for a likely rematch against President Biden later this year, Trump’s stance on the ACA is expected to be a focal point of the election campaign.
