In Tennessee, families are anxiously searching for loved ones who remain unaccounted for following devastating floods that swept through the region. Entire neighborhoods have been swallowed up by floodwaters, leaving many people missing and their relatives desperate for any news. NBC News correspondent Priscilla Thompson is on the ground in hard-hit eastern Tennessee, reporting on the ongoing search efforts and the heartbreaking stories of those affected by the disaster.

GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump is set to visit Valdosta, Georgia, today to assess the storm damage and assist with relief efforts in the wake of the deadly flooding. At least 17 people have lost their lives in Georgia due to the storm, prompting a swift response from Trump’s campaign. Meanwhile, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp will be touring storm-damaged areas in Augusta and will not be present during Trump’s visit, according to an aide. President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris are also planning to visit impacted areas once emergency operations have stabilized, according to White House officials.

Federal forecasters have issued warnings of more rain potentially falling across parts of the Central Appalachians, as the remnants of Hurricane Helene combine with a rain front to bring additional moisture to the region. Up to 5 inches of rain could accumulate in some areas, adding to the already saturated ground and increasing the risk of further flooding. National Weather Service meteorologist Jeremy Geiger explains that there is a localized feature causing a concentration of rain in certain areas, with the rain expected to move out of the region by Tuesday or Wednesday.

In Hendersonville, North Carolina, residents took to touring their flooded neighborhood in kayaks following the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. The storm may be dissipating, but the threat of heavy rain and flash flooding still looms over parts of the Appalachians, underscoring the ongoing dangers associated with the severe weather. As communities band together to navigate the challenges posed by the flooding and its aftermath, the resilience of the affected individuals shines through in their determination to seek out missing loved ones and rebuild their communities in the face of adversity.
