During the first week of the United Football League’s inaugural season, a team showcased some trickery during a game between the San Antonio Brahmas and the D.C. Defenders. Former New York Giants punter Brad Wing demonstrated his arm as he completed a 40-yard touchdown pass to center Alex Mollette. This play put the Brahmas ahead 20-9 before halftime, and they ultimately went on to win the game 27-12. Brahmas quarterback Chase Garbers had an impressive performance, completing 19 of 25 passes for 152 yards and two touchdowns, while also running for a touchdown. Receiver Jontre Kirklin contributed with eight catches for 61 yards and a touchdown.

On the Defenders’ side, quarterback Jordan Ta’amu had a solid game, going 25-for-45 with 235 passing yards and an interception. Ty Scott led the team in receiving with four catches for 87 yards. The only scoring for the Defenders came from kicker Matthew McCrane, who scored all 12 points with his longest field goal being a 28-yarder in the first quarter. Despite McCrane’s efforts, the Defenders were not able to keep up with the Brahmas, who were able to secure the win.

San Antonio Brahmas will hit the road for their next game against the Memphis Showboats, while the Defenders will host the Houston Roughnecks in their next matchup. The UFL’s merger of the USFL and XFL has brought a new level of competition and excitement to the league, and fans can expect more thrilling games and impressive plays as the season progresses.
