Tiger Woods has set a new Masters record for the most consecutive cuts made at Augusta National, making it to the weekend for the 24th time in a row. This streak began in 1997 when he won the tournament by a record 12 strokes and became the youngest player to ever win a green jacket. Woods did not play in the Masters in 2014, 2016, 2017, or 2021, and he withdrew midway through the third round last year. However, whenever he does participate, it’s almost guaranteed that he will make the cut.

Woods’ streak was in jeopardy during this year’s tournament after a rocky start on Friday. He began his round on the 14th hole due to the first round being suspended because of darkness. Despite some ups and downs on the front nine, with three birdies and three bogeys within six holes, Woods managed to finish with an even 72 in his second round. This performance solidified his record-breaking consecutive cuts made at the Masters.

The only time Woods missed the cut at the Masters was in 1996, the year before his impressive streak began. With Adam Scott’s streak of 14 straight cuts ending this year, Woods’ record of 24 consecutive cuts appears to be unmatchable for the foreseeable future. Jack Nicklaus holds the record for the most cuts made at Augusta with 37, but Woods’ 25 cuts rank seventh all-time. Despite being tied for 24th and eight shots back from the lead, Woods believes he still has a good chance going into the weekend.

Several other notable golfers missed the cut this year, including Jordan Spieth, Dustin Johnson, Hideki Matsuyama, Wyndham Clark, and Viktor Hovland. Woods’ accomplishment at Augusta National underscores his enduring talent and resilience in the sport, as he continues to compete at a high level on one of the most prestigious courses in golf. His legacy at the Masters is firmly cemented, with no immediate challengers in sight to break his record of consecutive cuts made.
