The EV3 compact electric SUV was introduced by Kia in May, adding to the brand’s lineup of electric vehicles which includes the Niro EV, EV5, EV6, and EV9. The EV3 boasts a range of 371 miles on the less intensive European WLTP battery test cycle and features an AI assistant to aid in driving tasks. The design of the EV3 includes a squared, stubby body with vertical headlights and a modern interpretation of Kia’s Tiger Face grille, along with distinctive Star Map signature lighting concept.

The EV3 comes in nine colors, including two created specifically for the model, and offers a GT-Line version with additional sporty features such as contrasting lower body trim and an integrated lower bumper with triangle wing configurations. At 169 inches in length, the EV3 is slightly smaller than the Kia Niro but utilizes the company’s Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) and fourth-generation battery technology. The interior features sustainable materials, ambient lighting, and a two-tiered luggage compartment with 16.2 cubic feet of space.

Many SUVs in North America have high price tags, making the affordability of EVs an issue for some buyers. The EV3 aims to appeal to customers looking for a smaller SUV with good range and an affordable price point, providing features such as a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 5-inch air-conditioning panel, and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Drive modes and other functions can be accessed through the steering wheel, and the vehicle also includes Kia’s AI Assistant technology for voice control navigation.

The $35,000 electric Volvo EX30 is a competitor to the EV3, along with the Polestar 2 which is longer and priced at $49,900. Kia has not yet announced pricing for the EV3, which will be introduced first in Korea in July 2024, followed by a European launch later in the year. The company plans to expand sales of the EV3 to other regions, including North America in 2026, with potential specifications changes for the market.
