MetalCore, a free-to-play massive multiplayer online (MMO) combat game, has announced a partnership with the universal gaming ecosystem Portal, led by former developers from Activision, Disney, Lucasfilm, and Midway. Portal is described as a cross-chain gaming access point that allows users to consolidate all of their Web3 games, digital assets, and user accounts into a single, easily accessible location. The goal of this partnership is to eliminate the complexity and fragmentation of the blockchain onboarding experience, which Studio369 believes is a bottleneck to broader growth in the Web3 game industry.
By creating a consolidated ecosystem, MetalCore and Portal aim to break down onboarding barriers and open doors to millions of new users. The integrated ecosystem will provide gamers with a powerful interface that removes the complexities of navigating blockchain bridges and liquidity pools. The partnership is part of MetalCore’s mission to build a player-driven, interconnected ecosystem of gaming token utility, where players shape the game’s outcome, narrative, and economy. Studio369 CEO Matt Candler stated that Portal is connecting the Web3 gaming ecosystem like never before, aiming to create an ecosystem that supports growth with AAA titles and connects players and assets.
Studio369, the team behind MetalCore, is made up of Unreal Engine experts with extensive experience in developing and publishing massive titles such as Fortnite, The Walking Dead, Star Trek, and Gears of War 3. In March, Studio369 successfully raised $5 million for MetalCore from various investors, bringing the total amount raised to $18.7 million in three rounds. The funds raised will be used for continued development and upcoming features, including a dynamic mission system that leverages AI to generate unique assignments and tasks. Additionally, the integration in the Immutable zkEVM ecosystem enables developers to deploy custom smart contracts and offer users a gas-free service.
MetalCore has received recognition for its innovative gameplay mechanics, winning awards such as Best Blockchain Game of the Year and Best Shooter Game. The game features a unique ‘scanning’ system that allows players to obtain blueprints from fallen enemies, craft new weapons and vehicles, and convert them to Web3 assets for trading. On the other hand, Portal offers a suite of services for users to engage with Web3 titles, including a wallet, companion app, multi-chain functionality, a launchpad, and a native token. The Portal token debuted this year at a $2.37 billion valuation and has an advisory board that includes Jamie King, co-founder of Rockstar Games.
Justin Taylor, a member of the Portal team, highlighted the importance of having innovative titles available through their platform, aiming to be the go-to access point for players’ favorite Web3 games. The partnership with MetalCore is seen as a step towards achieving this goal, with the goal of providing players with a seamless and user-friendly experience. Overall, the collaboration between MetalCore and Portal is driving the advancement of the Web3 gaming ecosystem, offering players new opportunities to engage with blockchain-powered games and digital assets.
