The life-size walking Gundam in Yokohama has now closed its doors to the public, marking the end of its successful run. The Gundam, known as the RX-78F00, was a custom variant of the original RX-78-2 Gundam and was a marvel of engineering. Although it did not technically walk, the amount of technical expertise required to make it move was evident.

When the walking Gundam first opened, it garnered a lot of attention and excitement from fans. The design changes made to the RX-78F00 were aimed at improving the motion of its limbs, taking into account the complexities of creating a full-scale walking Gundam. The Gundam’s closing ceremony on March 31st was a grand event, featuring fireworks, music, and a stunning drone light show that impressed attendees.

While the walking Gundam may have closed its doors, there are still other life-size Gundam statues to be found in various locations across Asia. From the Unicorn Gundam in Tokyo to the Nu Gundam in Fukuoka and the Freedom Gundam in Shanghai, fans have plenty of opportunities to see these iconic robots in person. However, there is a hope for a life-size Gundam to be brought outside of Asia in the future, expanding the reach of this popular franchise.

As fans bid farewell to the walking Gundam in Yokohama, the static life-size Gundam statues continue to be a popular attraction for visitors. The legacy of the walking Gundam lives on through the memories of those who witnessed its impressive display. As the world eagerly anticipates what’s next for life-size Gundams, there is no doubt that these iconic robots will continue to captivate audiences around the globe.
