In a new series called Shopping With Vogue, Nigerian singer Tems takes us along as she explores the Lower East Side fashion hotspot ESSX in search of stylish additions to her wardrobe. As she tries on a pair of reflective Acne Studios aviators, she transforms into a sexy extraterrestrial, declaring herself a “hot alien” who has “killed everybody.” With her debut album Born In The Wild set to release on June 7, Tems is on a mission to find the perfect “garms” and “shades” for her upcoming projects.

Having been a fan of ESSX since it opened less than a year ago, Tems is excited to browse the racks for “cool shit” that catches her eye. Known for her simple yet spicy personal style, she describes her fashion sense as “delicately dangerous” and gravitates towards body-hugging pieces from designers like Alaïa, Blumarine, and Y/Project. Despite being a recovering shopaholic, Tems believes that whatever is meant for her will find her, but she’s ready to test her willpower during this shopping expedition.

While exploring the store, Tems is drawn to the Jean Paul Gaultier rack and picks out a white long-sleeve shirt with trompe l’oeil designs. She mentions that she prefers pants over dresses for her onstage style, as feeling good and confident is crucial for her performance. Tems expresses her love for menswear and its perfect fit, as she pulls out embellished jeans and button-downs while browsing through the men’s section at ESSX.

Despite her shopping rules, Tems ultimately doesn’t leave empty-handed. With her keen eye for unique and stylish pieces that cater to her body shape and personal style, she adds some new additions to her wardrobe. From statement pieces like a graphic Y/Project maxi dress to versatile menswear items, Tems showcases her eclectic taste and confident fashion sense during her shopping trip at ESSX. Stay tuned to see what fashionable finds Tems walks away with from her visit to the fashion hotspot on the Lower East Side of New York City.
