Microsoft has introduced a new AI assistant called “Team Copilot” that will test the limits of artificial intelligence in group collaboration. This virtual project manager and meeting assistant is designed to keep meetings on track, take collaborative notes, manage large projects, and assign tasks within organizations. The new feature expands the existing Copilot AI technology beyond its function as a one-on-one personal assistant.

While some may have concerns about taking direction from an AI bot, Microsoft assures users that they ultimately have control over their interactions with Team Copilot. Users can ignore or override the choices or assignments made by the AI assistant and can even assign tasks to Team Copilot. This new feature is part of Microsoft’s broader effort to expand the capabilities of Microsoft 365 Copilot, which comes at an additional cost on top of the existing price of Microsoft 365 licenses.

Microsoft unveiled Team Copilot at its Build developer conference in Seattle, along with a range of new tools and technologies for creating, deploying, and integrating AI technologies. As companies like Microsoft, Google, Amazon, and others compete aggressively in the AI space, the goal is to expand the footprints of their cloud platforms. Team Copilot will be available in Microsoft Teams, Loop, and Planner, among other programs, and is set to be released in preview later this year, requiring a Microsoft 365 Copilot license for access.
