Tableau, a data analysis and visualization company acquired by Salesforce in 2019, is releasing a new artificial intelligence tool called Einstein Copilot to make its advanced features more accessible to users. This tool allows users to ask questions about their data in natural language and receive answers in visualizations and text. It is meant to help both expert and non-expert users accomplish more within Tableau, aligning with the company’s mission of helping users see and understand data.

Einstein Copilot in Tableau will be available in the cloud version and is expected to be generally available in June. The tool automates the process of data visualization and analysis, recommending follow-up questions for the users based on their initial prompts. The graphics and insights generated are dynamically updated as the conversation proceeds. Salesforce, Tableau’s parent company, is rolling out AI features like Einstein Copilot across its platforms to enhance customer relationship management services.

Tableau CEO, Ryan Aytay, who took over the role in 2022, emphasized that Einstein Copilot is designed to improve user efficiency and ensure data privacy and security through Salesforce’s Einstein Trust Layer. This tool is part of a trend where built-in AI capabilities are becoming essential for software vendors to remain competitive in the market. Microsoft is also integrating AI technology into its Power BI platform, challenging Tableau in the data visualization segment.

Tableau customers can sign up for the beta version of Einstein Copilot on the company’s website. While pricing and other details for the broader release have not been announced yet, Aytay confirmed that the company continues to invest in its on-premises and server products for users of those versions. Aytay’s focus has been on improving customer support, addressing concerns raised by Gartner in their recent report on analytics and business intelligence vendors. He is set to discuss Tableau’s vision and product roadmap further at the upcoming Tableau Conference in San Diego.

The introduction of Einstein Copilot in Tableau signifies a broader trend in the tech industry where AI tools are becoming standard features for software products. This democratization of AI aims to empower users with varying levels of expertise to leverage advanced data analysis capabilities. As companies like Tableau and Microsoft continue to innovate, users can expect more intelligent and user-friendly tools that streamline the process of deriving insights from data. The collaboration between Tableau and Salesforce also highlights the importance of incorporating AI into customer relationship management solutions to enhance user experience and efficiency.
