A new study suggests that COVID vaccines could be partially responsible for a rise in excess deaths in the US and other Western countries since the beginning of the pandemic. The study from The Netherlands’ Vrije Universiteit analyzed mortality data from 47 Western countries and found that excess mortality has remained high since 2020, despite the widespread rollout of COVID vaccines and containment measures. The researchers urge government leaders and policymakers to thoroughly investigate the underlying causes of this persistent excess mortality.

While COVID-19 vaccines were intended to protect people from morbidity and mortality caused by the virus, the study notes that suspected adverse events have been documented as well. Both medical professionals and citizens have reported serious injuries and deaths following vaccination in various official databases. The study emphasizes the need for a comprehensive investigation into these potential adverse effects and the impact they may have had on excess mortality rates.

During the pandemic, the focus was on protecting every life through containment measures and COVID-19 vaccines, but the study suggests that the same moral should apply post-pandemic. The research found that there were over three million excess deaths in the US, Europe, and Australia since 2020, with more than one million occurring in 2020 at the peak of the pandemic. Excess death figures remained high in the following years, with 1.2 million in 2021 and 800,000 in 2022, indicating ongoing concerns about mortality rates.

The excess death toll includes fatalities directly linked to the virus as well as indirect effects of health strategies implemented to curb the spread of infections. The study highlights serious side effects of COVID vaccines such as ischaemic strokes, acute coronary syndromes, and brain hemorrhages, which may not always be detected as adverse vaccine reactions due to the commonality of these symptoms. This underscores the need for ongoing monitoring and investigation into the safety and efficacy of COVID vaccines.

According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 1.1 million Americans have died from COVID since the beginning of the pandemic. The study suggests that continued research into excess mortality rates, potential adverse effects of COVID vaccines, and the long-term impact of the pandemic on public health is critical. Government leaders and policymakers are called upon to prioritize these investigations to better understand the factors contributing to persistent excess mortality in Western countries in the years following the initial outbreak of COVID-19.
