Seattle-based startup Soundry AI, part of the latest cohort at the Y Combinator accelerator, has created a text-to-sound generator using generative artificial intelligence to help musicians create samples for songs. Led by co-founders Diandre Ruiz, Mark Buckler, and Justin Parus, the platform allows users to experiment and fine-tune drum beats, bass lines, and more through various text prompts, providing a unique way to communicate emotion and feeling in music production.
Competing in the space with companies like Suno AI, Soundry differentiates itself by focusing on creating authentic samples without copyright concerns. By partnering with artists and licensing their songs and samples to help train its AI, Soundry offers “infinite sample packs” that cater to different genres, such as “Hip-Hop Crate” or “Tokyo Dubstep Drums.” The goal is to make music production as simple as playing with LEGOs, making the process more accessible and enjoyable for users.
Soundry operates on a subscription model, priced at $10 a month, offering access to all sample packs. The platform releases new packs every week, providing a variety of styles and partnerships to its members. Targeting audio prosumers, high-level hobbyists, and professional musicians, Soundry also appeals to foley artists who use the tool for sound effects in various projects, showcasing the versatility and widespread application of the technology.
Beyond the financial aspect, Soundry’s co-founder Ruiz emphasizes the importance of combining AI with human experience in music creation. By providing people with tools to communicate their experiences effectively, AI can amplify storytelling and content creation, enabling more individuals to share their unique perspectives and stories through music. This integration of technology and human creativity is where the true power of AI lies in the music industry.
Soundry is also near the completion of a seed round of financing, further solidifying its position in the market and enabling the startup to continue developing its technology and expanding its offerings. With its user-friendly approach to music production and emphasis on authenticity and creativity, Soundry is set to make a lasting impact on the industry, providing a valuable resource for musicians and audio professionals looking to enhance their craft through innovative AI technology.
