Sonos has released the new Roam 2 speaker, which comes in five color options and addresses connectivity issues that users experienced with the original Roam. Priced at $179, the Roam 2 is not a significant upgrade in terms of sound quality, as it seems to have the same acoustic architecture as its predecessor. However, the addition of a Bluetooth button on the back of the speaker allows for easier pairing with Bluetooth-enabled devices right out of the box. The updated design also includes a more muted monochromatic Sonos logo that matches the speaker’s color.

In addition to the Roam 2, Sonos has announced updates and bug fixes to the Sonos app, aiming to improve connectivity for its portable speakers. The revamped app has received mixed feedback from users, with some reporting bugs and missing features that were present in the previous version. Sonos is also set to release the Sonos Ace headphones on June 5, expanding their product offering in the audio market. The Roam 2 features a refreshed design with separate power and Bluetooth buttons for easier use, as well as the ability to connect over Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. Automatic Trueplay tuning ensures the best listening experience in any environment, and Apple devices can be connected via AirPlay 2.

The Roam 2 offers up to 10 hours of continuous playback on a single charge at moderate volume levels and supports USB-C and wireless charging. Weighing 0.95 pounds, the speaker is dust-proof and fully waterproof with an IP67 rating, making it suitable for outdoor use. Available in colors like olive, sunset, wave, black, and white, the Roam 2 is designed to fit different preferences and styles. The speaker is designed for easy setup and connectivity, whether through Bluetooth for on-the-go use or Wi-Fi for integration into a Sonos multi-room audio system.

Despite the minimal changes in sound quality, the Roam 2 aims to provide a more seamless user experience with improved connectivity and design enhancements. The addition of a dedicated Bluetooth button simplifies the pairing process, making it easier to switch between Wi-Fi mode at home and Bluetooth mode on the go. With updates to the Sonos app and the upcoming release of the Sonos Ace headphones, Sonos continues to expand its product lineup and improve its offerings in the audio market. Customers can expect a versatile and portable speaker option in the form of the Roam 2, with features like Automatic Trueplay tuning and support for AirPlay 2.
