A new indoor skate park and community hotspot called The Hub is set to open in the Halifax area in May, providing skateboarders with a much-needed space to practice their skills. The park, located in Dartmouth, will be the first indoor skate park in the area since the early 2000s. The founders of Wild Things Skate, Doug Morrison and Jake Parker, recognized the need for a larger space where skaters can drop in and hang out, as their current indoor space was too small to accommodate the growing number of people interested in learning to skateboard.

The new indoor skate park in Burnside will offer much more room for skaters to practice, as well as additional spaces for musicians to jam and artists to host workshops. Morrison and Parker also plan to host live music shows, skateboarding lessons, and year-round camps at the park. The turnout for lessons has been great, with an increasing number of new participants joining in. Families have started learning to skateboard together, fostering a sense of community and inclusivity within the skateboarding scene.

The skateboarding community in Halifax has become more diverse and inclusive, with people from all walks of life participating in the sport. The community aspect of skateboarding has helped to keep skaters engaged and interested in the sport, with group dynamics playing a significant role in fostering a sense of belonging among skateboarders. Rob Bell, owner of Pro Skate on Quinpool Road, is excited to see new skaters coming through his shop and hopes that the indoor skate park will encourage people to continue skating throughout the winter months.

The indoor skate park is still under construction, but Morrison and Parker are hopeful that they will be able to open the park to skateboarders by the first weeks of May. The park will provide a much-needed space for skateboarders to practice, socialize, and participate in a variety of activities, including live music shows and art workshops. The founders of Wild Things Skate are committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for skaters of all ages and skill levels, and are excited to see the positive impact the park will have on the skateboarding community in Halifax.

The indoor skate park is expected to attract a diverse range of skateboarders, from beginners to experienced skaters, and will provide a space for people to come together and share their love of skateboarding. The founders of Wild Things Skate hope that the park will help to grow the skateboarding community in Halifax and provide a space for people to connect, learn, and have fun. With the opening of The Hub in May, skateboarders in Halifax will have a new place to call home and continue pursuing their passion for skateboarding.
