Trust is a crucial asset for businesses to earn from their customers, especially in a competitive market. To help consumers identify trustworthy companies, Newsweek released its 2024 ranking of the Most Trustworthy Companies in America, featuring 700 organizations across 23 industries. The companies were selected based on a survey of 25,000 U.S. residents, considering trust from consumers, investors, and potential employees’ perspectives. Companies involved in scandals or lawsuits were excluded from the list.

The retail industry was the most represented sector on the list, with 66 retail companies making the cut. Home Depot made a significant debut, landing at No. 9 this year after being absent from the 2023 list. The company, founded in 1978, has more than 2,300 stores across North America and emphasizes values like “taking care of our people” and philanthropic initiatives like the Homer Fund, which provides financial assistance to employees facing hardships. Best Buy saw the biggest year-over-year jump, rising 29 spots to No. 32, with initiatives like a large-scale e-waste recycling program and alignment with human rights principles.

Williams-Sonoma, a kitchenware and home furnishings retailer, climbed 24 spots to No. 22, emphasizing responsible sourcing practices for its products and engaging in charitable partnerships like raising funds for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Menards, a Wisconsin-based home improvement retailer, jumped 19 spots to No. 25, highlighting its family ownership and customer-focused approach. Big 5 Sporting Goods climbed 16 spots to No. 42, engaging customers with lifestyle advice and a wide range of sports equipment and apparel.

Hibbett, a shoe and apparel retailer, rose 14 spots to No. 41, focusing on community-focused initiatives like the Sole School program, which supports underserved schools and athletic programs. These companies have demonstrated a commitment to earning trust through their values, initiatives, and engagement with their customers. The Most Trustworthy Companies in America ranking serves as a guide for consumers looking to support companies that prioritize trust and integrity in their business practices. By recognizing these companies, Newsweek aims to highlight the importance of trust in building strong relationships between businesses and customers in today’s competitive market.
