Nicole Brown Simpson’s sister Denise Brown reveals that Nicole had been living in fear of her husband, O.J. Simpson, before her 1994 murder. Simpson, who was acquitted of the murders of Nicole and her friend Ron Goldman, passed away last month at the age of 76. Despite the public belief that Simpson was responsible for the murders, he was acquitted after a highly publicized trial. Nicole’s surviving family members have broken their silence in an upcoming Lifetime documentary to shed light on the abuse she allegedly suffered at Simpson’s hands before her death.

The two-part documentary titled “The Life and Murder of Nicole Brown Simpson” is set to air on June 1 and 2. In the trailer for the documentary, Brown’s sisters Denise, Dominque, and Tanya recount the abuse Nicole allegedly experienced at the hands of Simpson before her death. Nicole had kept a journal chronicling the instances of abuse she endured. Simpson was arrested for spousal abuse once during their seven-year marriage, but the charges were dropped by Brown. Despite filing for divorce in 1992, citing irreconcilable differences, the abuse allegedly continued.

The documentary aims to tell Nicole’s side of the story, which her family feels was overshadowed during Simpson’s trial. Brown’s family members hope to show who Nicole really was, beyond being a headline in a tragic case. The fate of Brown and Simpson’s children, who were in Simpson’s custody after he was acquitted of their mother’s murder, is also a topic in the documentary. Brown’s parents fought for custody of the children until the eldest child turned 18 in 2006.

The sisters shared with The Hollywood Reporter that they hope the documentary will help other victims of abuse recognize the signs and take action before things escalate. The documentary sheds light on the abuse Nicole allegedly suffered at the hands of Simpson, as well as the ongoing custody battle for their children. The public will finally hear Nicole’s side of the story and understand who she was beyond being a tragic headline. Through this documentary, Nicole’s family hopes to bring awareness to domestic abuse and support other victims in seeking help before it’s too late.
