A maniac driving a Jeep on a Washington state beach deliberately struck and killed more than two dozen seagulls, shocking witnesses who called the incident a “massacre.” The unidentified driver fatally ran over 25 birds and one even became stuck to the grill of his Jeep Cherokee. The incident took place on sand south of Klipsan Beach just outside of Long Beach at around 8 p.m. on Saturday, with wildlife officials confirming that the same Jeep had also nearly struck two people walking their dogs on the beach.
Bystanders attempted to save some of the birds that were not instantly killed, but unfortunately, their efforts were unsuccessful. Witnesses managed to briefly stop the driver and take photos of him, his vehicle, and his license plate. The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife has identified the driver through the images and is trying to contact the man who is said to live out of state. One witness, Kim Ledyard McGee, described the Jeep as moving at an “extremely high rate of speed” as it ran over the seagulls. She added that the driver continued to drive past her and her husband multiple times, prompting them to use their truck to try and stop him. Despite being confronted, the driver still drove off at a high speed.
A local resident, Dorothy Howard, who resides near the beach, referred to the incident as a “massacre,” noting how unusual and intentional it was compared to the natural deaths typically seen. She expressed shock and disbelief at the driver’s actions and mentioned that when she and other witnesses called the police, the individual fled the scene. Howard observed that there didn’t seem to be any remorse in the driver’s behavior, describing him as appearing “deadpan.” The deliberate nature of the incident left many in the area disturbed and angered by the reckless behavior exhibited by the individual behind the wheel of the Jeep.
