In Long Island, New York, investigators found a Microsoft Word “planning document” in the home of Rex Heuermann, a suspect in the Gilgo Beach serial killings. This document was said to provide a blueprint for the murders of several women, including the already charged “Gilgo Four” and two additional victims. The 60-year-old architect has pleaded not guilty to the charges. His defense attorney acknowledged the difficulty in defending against multiple murder charges.

Further investigation of Heuermann’s Massapequa Park home led to the discovery of over 350 electronic devices, including images depicting violent sexual acts. The planning document, labeled “HK2002-04,” was found on a hard drive’s “unallocated space,” suggesting it had been deleted. The document contained details about potential problems during a killing, supplies to avoid capture, and a suggested dump site for disposing of remains. Prosecutors claim that some details in the document matched aspects of the actual killings, including the disposal of victims’ remains and destruction of identifying tattoos.

The planning document also mentioned a section labeled “TRG,” allegedly referring to “targets,” and included the phrase “small is good,” indicating petite women. It provided a detailed guide on how to avoid being caught, emphasizing the importance of sleep before a “hunt” to prevent mistakes. References to the book “Mindhunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit” by former FBI profiler John Douglas were also found in the document. This book contains insights from interviews with serial killers, and the document warned against leaving clues. The investigation is ongoing and prosecutors are building a case based on the evidence found.

Heuermann’s defense attorney, Micheal Brown, did not provide a statement to the press regarding the new charges. The suspect, who is currently facing allegations in multiple murders, appeared in court for a hearing in Suffolk County. The discovery of the planning document and other evidence has led to further charges being brought against him in the deaths of Jessica Taylor and Sandra Costilla. The investigation, which involved examining electronic devices and other possible evidence, is ongoing as authorities continue to build their case against Heuermann.

The chilling details outlined in the alleged planning document suggest a meticulous and calculated approach to the killings, including methods to avoid detection and disposal of remains. Prosecutors argue that the document provides insight into the suspect’s mindset and planning process. The investigation of the Gilgo Beach serial killings has been a lengthy and complex process, with detectives working to gather evidence and link Heuermann to the crimes. The case has garnered significant attention due to the gruesome nature of the killings and the alleged premeditation involved. The victims, whose lives were tragically cut short, are being remembered as the investigation continues.
