A man in Seattle, Washington was arrested for stabbing nine people in a series of random attacks that took place over a 38-hour period in the city’s Chinatown-International District. The suspect was responsible for four of the victims being sent to Harborview Medical Center, where all patients initially entered in critical condition. As of Friday night, two of the victims remain in critical condition, while one was upgraded to satisfactory and another to serious condition.
The suspect stabbed five people on Friday and is also suspected in four additional stabbings that occurred in the same neighborhood on Thursday. Deputy Chief Eric Barden mentioned that the suspect had similar descriptions and crime profiles on both days, leading authorities to believe that it was the same man responsible for all the attacks. Seattle police were able to find the suspect due to witness descriptions, and he was apprehended with a weapon nearby. The authorities followed a trail of blood left by a victim as part of the investigation.
One of the victims, a 53-year-old man, was stabbed in the neck and was bleeding heavily before receiving medical treatment. The stabbings that occurred in Little Saigon and the Chinatown-International District were described as horrific and appalling by Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell. He stated that every person deserves to feel and be safe, and he remains committed to using all available tools to improve the safety of the neighborhood for residents, workers, and visitors.
In addition to the nine stabbings by the suspect, a tenth incident on Thursday night may also be connected to his spree. An assailant attempted to steal a phone from a 60-year-old man sitting in his car, and the victim was able to defend himself by warding off the knife swing towards his chest. Acting quickly, Seattle police were able to apprehend the suspect and locate a weapon nearby. The suspect had similarities in descriptions and crime profiles for the attacks on both Thursday and Friday, leading authorities to believe it was the same individual responsible for all incidents.
Reflecting on the horrific events, Mayor Harrell condemned the attacks and stressed the importance of making every person feel safe in the city. The victims who were taken to Harborview Medical Center were treated for their injuries, with some still in critical condition while others showed signs of improvement. The quick response of the Seattle Police Department was crucial in locating and capturing the suspect, bringing an end to the frightening series of random stabbings that had unsettled the residents of the Chinatown-International District. The authorities remain vigilant to ensure the safety and well-being of all individuals in the community.
