Seattle chef and Homemade CEO Joel Gamoran is utilizing his passion for cooking to fuel his startup, Homemade. With the goal of creating a product centered around “culinary medicine” to help people stay healthy, Gamoran has raised $1.5 million in new funding. Homemade provides free live cooking classes to a global audience, with as many as 3,500 viewers tuning in to learn how to make a variety of dishes. The engagement on these classes has been steadily growing, with 98% of viewers staying until the end of a class and over 4 million people having watched Homemade’s online classes.

In addition to online classes, Homemade has also produced a cooking series called “Homemade Live!” that airs on PBS. Shot in front of a studio audience at the company’s headquarters in Seattle, the new funding will help with putting together season two of the show. Gamoran’s ultimate goal with Homemade is to create a product focused on “culinary medicine” that can help individuals with health issues, such as diabetes, develop healthier eating habits. Instead of prescribing medication, Gamoran envisions prescribing cooking classes as a way to empower people to stay healthy and cook nutritious meals.

Homemade, which consists of a small team of five employees and a group of contractors, recently hired a new COO and head of brand partnerships to continue growing the company. The content produced by Homemade is now available for free on Alaska Airlines, allowing passengers to watch cooking classes during their flights. Gamoran’s vision for Homemade extends beyond just online classes and TV shows, as he hopes to partner with healthcare providers or insurers to provide preventative health solutions to individuals through cooking classes and healthy eating habits.

The success of Homemade can be attributed to Gamoran’s background as a chef and his experience in hosting cooking classes across the country. With a passion for empowering people through cooking, Gamoran has created a platform that not only teaches individuals how to cook, but also emphasizes the importance of using whole foods in a responsible way. By targeting specific health issues and promoting healthier eating habits, Homemade is working towards creating a future where cooking classes can be prescribed as a form of “culinary medicine” to help people maintain their health and well-being.

Gamoran’s dedication to helping individuals stay healthy through cooking is evident in the growth of Homemade and the positive feedback from viewers of the online classes. With a commitment to continuing to expand Homemade’s offerings and reach, Gamoran is focused on making a positive impact on people’s lives by promoting the importance of cooking whole foods and developing healthy eating habits. As Homemade continues to grow and attract a larger audience, Gamoran’s vision for creating a product centered around “culinary medicine” to help people stay healthy remains at the forefront of the company’s mission.
