Nicole Craig, a resident of Saskatoon, expressed her gratitude towards paramedics Matt McGurk and Mitch Sparrow after they saved her life when she went into cardiac arrest. Medavie Health Services West received a call on April 15 about a woman in cardiac arrest, and the paramedics were able to quickly respond and revive Craig. She referred to them as her “guardian angels” and thanked them for their bravery, skills, and compassion. Craig underwent emergency cardiac surgery at the hospital after the incident, and despite the sore ribs as a setback, she expressed her appreciation for the paramedics and their life-saving efforts.

Craig acknowledged the impact that the paramedics had on her life and mentioned that she doesn’t remember anything from that day. She emphasized how the experience has made her value life more and has prompted her to slow down and be more present in the moment. Medavie Health Services West spokesperson, Troy Davies, stated that it is uncommon for patients to come forward and express gratitude for paramedics after an incident. He highlighted the importance of CPR and defibrillation in such situations and praised the paramedics’ quick response.

McGurk and Sparrow shared their perspectives on the incident, noting the rarity of successful outcomes in their line of work. McGurk mentioned that in his 20 years of experience, it was the first time he was able to meet a patient with a successful outcome. Sparrow emphasized the significance of swift response times in emergencies and expressed gratitude for being able to meet Craig in person after the incident. The paramedics stressed the importance of minutes and seconds in critical situations like cardiac arrest and reiterated the special nature of their meeting with Craig.

The incident highlighted the dedication and selflessness of paramedics like McGurk and Sparrow, whose quick actions saved a woman’s life.
