The upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 6 will offer consumers a choice between 8 GB or 12 GB of RAM and either 256 GB or 512 GB of storage, making it competitive with other high-end smartphones in 2024. What sets the Galaxy Z Flip 6 apart is the choice of chipset, with Samsung opting to use a mix of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and its own Exynos 2400.

In previous years, every Galaxy Z Flip 5 model came with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, while the Galaxy S23 family in 2023 exclusively used Snapdragon. By incorporating chips from both manufacturers in the Galaxy Z Flip 6, Samsung is taking a similar approach to its class-leading flip phone as it did with the Galaxy S24.

The Snapdragon and Exynos chipsets offer slightly different performance levels, with the Snapdragon platform generally regarded as more powerful than Samsung’s Exynos. While the Exynos chipset may lag slightly behind in performance, it is more power efficient and offers better battery life. Consumers will not have the option to choose between the two chipsets, as each sales region will receive either Exynos or Snapdragon.

Using the Exynos 2400 chipset will reduce the overall bill of materials for Samsung, making the Galaxy Z Flip 6 more competitive in the growing market for foldable phones. While consumers looking for the most powerful phone may consider larger candy bar-styled phones like the Galaxy S24 Ultra, those interested in a balance of functions and form are likely to be drawn to foldable phones like the Galaxy Z Flip 6.

Overall, the slight performance difference between the Snapdragon and Exynos chipsets in the Galaxy Z Flip 6 will be outweighed by the more competitive price. As the market for foldable phones continues to grow and become more competitive, factors such as price will play a significant role in consumers’ comparisons of devices from different manufacturers.
