Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has rejected a reported peace deal involving Ukraine and NATO, claiming that the proposals were made by President-elect Trump’s advisors. Lavrov stated that the U.S. plans to suspend hostilities along the contact line and transfer confrontation responsibility to Europeans, which included postponing Ukraine’s admission to NATO for 20 years and stationing British and European peacekeeping forces in Ukraine. Lavrov also accused NATO of expanding its reach for many years, which he views as a primary cause of the Ukraine crisis. He insisted that NATO military and mercenaries participate in combat operations on the side of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Lavrov further accused NATO of complicity in the invasion of the Kursk Region and long-range missile strikes inside Russia. He referenced President Vladimir Putin’s public statements to support his claims against NATO’s involvement in conflicts. Trump’s recent interview did not contain any references to NATO, but he was quoted as saying that ending the Russo-Ukrainian war would be advantageous to both sides. Trump also expressed his disagreement with sending missiles into Russia, stating that it would escalate the war and make it worse. However, he emphasized the importance of reaching an agreement and not abandoning the negotiations.

Russian President Vladimir Putin recently expressed willingness to compromise with Trump, but maintained that Russia is in a stronger position than it was in 2022. Putin stated that soon the Ukrainians who want to fight will run out, and there will be no one left who wants to fight. He stressed that Russia is ready for negotiations and compromises, and urged the other side to also be prepared for discussions and concessions. Lavrov’s comments came amid Trump’s team being reached out to for comment, although there was no immediate response from them.

The conflict between Russia, Ukraine, and NATO has been a contentious issue, with Lavrov accusing NATO of interference in the region and escalating tensions. Putin’s stance on potential negotiations and compromises suggests a willingness to find a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflicts. Trump’s comments on the situation highlight the importance of reaching a diplomatic agreement rather than escalating the war further. The involvement of various parties in the conflict, including military forces and advisors, has complicated the situation and raised concerns about the potential for further escalation. It remains to be seen how the conflict will unfold and whether diplomatic efforts will lead to a resolution.
