During the trial of airline pilot Gregory Lynn for the murder of Russell Hill and Carol Clay, witness Blair Anson testified that he had met Hill in the weeks leading up to their deaths. Anson described Hill as a friendly and approachable man who had asked for permission to fly his drone near their campsite. He also mentioned that Hill had interacted with their group, despite the age gap between them, and had enjoyed talking to him.

Gregory Lynn, the accused in the case, has pleaded not guilty to the murders of Hill and Clay, whose burned remains were found at Union Spur Track in the Wonnangatta Valley. Lynn’s defense attorney claimed that the deaths were accidental, with Clay being shot during a struggle over a gun and Hill accidentally stabbed during a fight. Lynn admitted to torching the victims’ campsite and disposing of their bodies, but denies any murderous intent in their deaths.

The prosecution, however, disputes Lynn’s version of events and alleges that he killed both retirees with intent to murder them. It was revealed during the trial that Hill and Clay were in a romantic relationship, despite Hill being married, and had gone camping together in March 2020. After Hill’s wife reported him missing, Lynn was arrested and charged with two counts of murder in November 2021.

The trial continues to unfold, with the prosecution presenting evidence against Lynn to support their case of premeditated murder.
