Ring is hosting a “Great Ghost Search” just in time for Halloween and is calling it the “busiest doorbell season of the year.” Customers are invited to submit unedited videos of what they believe to be mysteries of the unexplained during the spooky season for a chance to win a $100,000 cash prize. The competition began on September 23, and Ring has already received over 2,000 customer videos. To qualify, video clips must be 30 seconds or less and captured on an existing Ring device.

Some customer video submissions have been shared by Ring, including one from a Los Angeles home where a ghostly figure appears to move a drink to the floor of their patio. The homeowner shared that they hear creaking going up and down the stairs at night. Another video from a preschool owner in Fort Collins, Colorado shows what they believe to be a ghost floating out of a room and gliding into the bathroom. The preschool owner is a believer in the paranormal and shared that this is not the first strange event they have experienced.

In Tampa, Florida, a customer captured a video of a “silly ghost” of a 13-year-old boy named Bronson on their Ring video doorbell. The boy only appears on the 25th of each month while it’s raining outside and dances to music played by his big brother. The customer shared that the ghost appeared while waiting for Hurricane Helene and is having a great time during the storm. Official judges for the competition include Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard and paranormal investigator Katrina Weidman. Videos are judged based on visibility or clarity of the ghost, uniqueness, entertainment value, and engagement.

Several customers have submitted videos of what they believe to be ghosts or paranormal activity captured on their Ring cameras. The competition is open for submissions until November 1, 2024, or when 5,000 entries are received, whichever comes first. Ring is encouraging customers to submit videos that are funny, frightening, fashionable, or a combination of all. The winning video will receive a $100,000 cash prize.
