She scored a 40 in chemistry, 31 in maths methods, 49 in psychology and a perfect 50 in English, health and human development and fast-tracked biology.Charlie said an internship in Nepal cemented her decision to study medicine.“I was given the amazing opportunity to observe a pacemaker insertion surgery on a young girl who was born with a congenital heart defect and was suffering from a very low heart rate and a complete heart block due to her condition,” she said.“I visited her the following morning and I remember thinking how incredible it was that just the day before she had been struggling for every single breath, but now the pacemaker had taken over and was able to truly breathe again, which completely confirmed my dream of going into medicine one day.”
