Fraternity brothers at the University of Central Florida allegedly struck pledges with a car in a twisted form of hazing that left one college kid howling in pain last month, according to a report.
The troubled Sigma Chi frat at the Florida college is facing at least temporary suspension after cops responded to their house on Feb. 24 over the alleged initiation antics witnessed by a nearby sorority house.
A Kappa Alpha Theta sister called campus police around 3 a.m. after she heard yelling and saw a gray Kia from the Sigma Chi house strike someone who appeared to be a pledge, according to a police report obtained Wednesday by the Orlando Sentinel.
The car was going about 10 to 15 miles per hour and another sorority sister told police “one of the boys got hit by a car.”
The sorority member also heard a male peer yell “help!” and “my bones, my bones, they’re broken,” according to the police docs reported on by the newspaper.
“Sigma Chi brothers had allegedly forced new members to stand in front of cars while members of the organization hit them with cars,” a detective alleged.
Three frat bros denied anyone was hit by a car or hurt and the Kia that matched what bystanders saw attempted to leave the scene with its headlights off. It’s unclear what happened once police stopped the Kia.
Cops couldn’t find the pledge who was allegedly smashed with the car either.
Sigma Chi, which has been suspended eight times between 2015 and 2020, didn’t address the allegations but said on its Instagram page it would cooperate with the school and its police department “to resolve any actions and misunderstandings,” the Sentinel reported.
A school spokesperson reportedly said the frat can’t have events on or campus during its suspension.
“UCF unequivocally condemns hazing in all forms, and we are committed to holding individuals and organizations accountable for actions that threaten the safety and well-being of our students and others,” the spokesperson told the newspaper.
