“Kenny was full of love and humor; small in frame, but mighty at heart,” Meeks said. “Any room he’d walk in, he’d light up with his smile along with his jokes. He was talented, a hard worker, and he loved his family.”Though he didn’t have children of his own, Cunningham thrived in his role as an uncle to his nephew whom he “adored,” Meeks told Newsweek.”Everyone loved Kenny and enjoyed being in his presence. He was the true definition of ‘wouldn’t hurt a fly’,” the 35-year-old added.Returning to his apartment a year later was an emotional experience for Meeks. She recalled how Cunningham was supposed to pick her up from the airport but never showed.Meeks found out that her brother had died when she turned up at his complex later that day.”We were supposed to be having a good time with family celebrating his birthday in that very apartment,” Meeks added.Seeing everything as it was left, right down to the items in his refrigerator (“he did not cook so you can only imagine”), was bittersweet for the sister.”It was also amusing to see how things were left—what was in his refrigerator and cabinets were true Kenny fashion. I would’ve definitely made fun of him if I had the chance; we would’ve laughed about it,” Meeks said. The heartbreaking clip has been viewed more than 11.3 million times on TikTok, with over 812,000 likes. Tributes poured in the comments, as many other users were familiar with the pain of losing a sibling.”I know this feeling. My brother was murdered October 4th 2024 in Cleveland Ohio. It’s so painful,” one user wrote.”Same with my brother after washing and ironing his school uniforms,” another said.Meeks revealed in the comments that her brother’s killer posed as an Amazon delivery driver to entice him downstairs. She told Newsweek that her brother’s killer was found guilty on all four counts, including malice murder and felony murder, and was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, plus an additional five years. While justice was served, it brought all the emotions back from that day when Meeks returned to her brother’s apartment.”To know that he was only leaving to get breakfast and come right back home is heartbreaking,” Meeks said.
