Rebellyous Foods, the Seattle-based food technology startup that makes plant-based faux chicken products, including nuggets, patties and tenders, raised $2.4 million.

The funding is an extension of the company’s Series B round. Rebellyous raised $9.5 million in 2023.

The fresh cash will be used for 2025 sales growth and to further research and development on the “Mock 2,” a novel food production system that Rebellyous unveiled in September in a bid to compete on price and quality with traditional meat production.

According to the company, the Mock 2 system is a fully continuous, automated, and chilled dough substrate processing system intended to reduce manufacturing costs compared to conventional methods. It can produce a wide range of plant-based meat products at volumes of 2,500 to 5,000 pounds per hour on a single processing line.

Rebellyous is partnering on the system with RMS Foods at a state-of-the-art facility in New Mexico.

Founder and CEO Christie Lagally previously called the Mock 2 unveiling “a pivotal moment in the future of food,” adding that the system is “catalyzing a path for sustainable protein production that is poised to reshape global eating habits.”

Rebellyous’ primary customers are roughly 275 school districts who feed schoolchildren through the National School Lunch Program.

A former Boeing engineer, Lagally founded the startup in 2017. Rebellyous has raised more than $30 million to date.
