The New York Post’s Mike Puma reported what happened during the meeting that ultimately got a deal done between both sides.”Steve Cohen flew to Tampa on Tuesday and met with Pete Alonso and Scott Boras (with David Stearns also present) at Stovall House, a social club, to help close the deal,” Puma wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter). “Alonso aired his frustration about the situation. It was made clear to Alonso he was wanted on the Mets.”Puma also elaborated on what Alonso’s frustrations were when asked in the comments.”Frustrated mostly that he wasn’t getting the kind of offer from the Mets he thought he deserved,” he wrote.Alonso has been one of baseball’s best power hitters since making his big-league debut in 2019. His 226 home runs during that time rank second in MLB behind Aaron Judge (232). He also ranks third all-time in franchise history. Darryl Strawberry is the Mets’ career home run leader with 252 homers. So, that record is certainly within the Polar Bear’s sights in 2025 now that he’s returning to Queens.More MLB: ‘Win-Win’ Yankees Trade Idea Would Unload Marcus Stroman on NL Contender
