For the first time in 13 years, Nick Jonas is returning to Broadway.
The pop star is teaming up with Tony Award winner Adrienne Warren to star in The Last Five Years as Jamie Wellerstein and Cathy Hiatt, respectively.
On Tuesday, March 4, Jonas took to Instagram to share an embarrassing moment that happened to him while rehearsing for the show, which is set to open to the public on March 18.
“During rehearsal today for The Last Five Years, I was singing, ‘Moving Too Fast,’ one of my character, Jamie’s, songs,” Jonas began.
“I’m supposed to jump onto this platform and, you know, then pull my costar Adrienne Warren up onto the platform with me and keep singing,” the actor continued.
Jonas added that while he was rehearing, he was “in front of our director, Whitney White, Jason Robert Brown, the composer of the show. And of course, my costar, Adrienne Warren, the stage management department, musical director, pianist and percussionist.”
But as Jonas attempted to hop onto the platform and pull Warren up alongside him, he very quickly realized something went terribly wrong.
“I do it, and I hear a [ripping sound] and I’m like, ‘Oh, no, oh, no,’” he recalled. “And I feel a cool breeze in a place you don’t want to feel cool breeze.”
That’s when Jonas held up the pants he was wearing for the camera to show a giant rip right down the center.
“This is what happened to my pants,” Jonas shared. “Yeah, so get a look at that right there, the whole way down. They’re not tight pants by any means. It just was the perfect spot in the position that I jumped up.”
He said he tried to duct-tape his pants before attempting to use safety pins to put the trousers back together, neither of which worked.
“Thankfully, the stage management department jumped over to Target and bought me some some black shorts to finish rehearsals in,” he graciously added.
“So that was my day,” Jonas concluded. “How was yours?”
Fans were quick to make sure he didn’t feel too alone.
“This is why my husband always wears golf pants with a stretch. Been to too many weddings where he ripped his pants open dancing,” one commenter wrote.
“I haven’t been there with pants but I’ve had that happen with a shirt on stage before,” another noted.
