NFL wide receiver DK Metcalf was all-in on Normani before they even met.
“Me and Ciara are really close, and Russell [Wilson, her husband] and DK were teammates on the Seattle Seahawks,” Normani, 28, recalled to Vogue in an interview published on Friday, March 14. “About two years prior to us even meeting, they were playing music videos in the locker room and ‘Motivation’ ended up popping up on the screen.”
The pop star added, “He [later told me] like, ‘The moment that I saw you come up on that screen, I said, ‘That’s going to be my wife. That’s going to be my girlfriend one day.’”
Normani released her “Motivation” music video in 2019, while she was in a different relationship. It wasn’t until two years later that she finally met Metcalf, now 27, when Ciara invited her to a party for her rum brand.

“I ended up going, and lo and behold, he ended up being there, and the rest is history,” Normani recalled to Vogue.
After three years together, Metcalf popped the question on Wednesday, March 12, while on a joint trip in Houston with their families.
“When we first met, we watched Juwanna Mann at my house,” the newly signed Pittsburgh Steelers athlete recalled to Vogue. “There was a part in the movie where Vivica Fox’s character said, ‘It would just be nice to receive flowers on a Wednesday.’”
In honor of the movie, Metcalf sent Normani bouquets every Wednesday over the last several months. Each floral arrangement arrived alongside a card detailing the pair’s romance as if it were a storybook fairy tale.
“At the very end of the story, I used both of our nicknames and said I had a question for her,” Metcalf said. “As she finished reading the final love letter, I came down the stairs, got on one knee and asked if she would marry me.”

The former Fifth Harmony singer was completely surprised by Metcalf’s plans — and, of course, said “yes.”
“Honestly, I was so overwhelmed, I can’t even remember what was said,” Normani recalled. “I just said ‘Yes, yes, yes, of course.’ The ring was beautiful. My baby did amazing. It was so beautiful and special, and he went above and beyond.”
Metcalf initially confirmed their engagement during his Thursday, March 13, press conference for the Steelers.

“She’s right there. Hold that rock up baby,” Metcalf gushed, pointing to Normani as she flashed her diamond ring while wearing a Steelers jersey.
Now that Normani has said yes, they’ve started planning their upcoming wedding ceremony.
“I was definitely that little girl dreaming of what my wedding dress would look like, what my ring would look like, and what my dream proposal would look like,” she teased to Vogue. “But for me, the most important part is that God has just been there. He’s been faithful to both of us, and I have found my dream man. There’s nobody that I would want to spend the rest of my life with and do life with. He’s literally my best friend, and I’m just really grateful that we found each other.”
