The birth of Dominic came at a particularly busy time as it coincided with the NHRA’s final race weekend of the season, held in Pomona, California. Despite the overlap with one of the most important weekends in the NHRA calendar, Stewart managed to maintain his commitments. Having qualified for the In-N-Out Burger NHRA Finals, he made the journey to Phoenix for the birth before returning to Pomona.

This year marked Stewart’s first foray into racing a Top Fuel dragster, a transition vastly different from his celebrated career in NASCAR. The motorsport world knows Stewart as a three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion. The decision for Stewart to take part in the Top Fuel lineup was partly influenced by Pruett’s pregnancy, as she took a temporary step back from her driving duties. Stewart’s participation filled the gap, allowing Tony Stewart Racing to maintain a competitive edge throughout the 2024 season. On the personal front, Stewart’s joy over becoming a father has been palpable. Earlier in June, he took to social media to share his excitement about the prospect of fatherhood. He wrote at the time:”I’m so excited to start a family with this incredibly beautiful love of my life Leah Pruett. Can’t wait to meet this little guy. This is the ultimate [trophy]”Pruett, a recognized figure in her own right within the NHRA circuit, boasts 12 Top Fuel National event wins. Her brief hiatus from racing during her pregnancy was seamlessly compensated by Stewart’s debut performances.
This comes after Stewart-Haas Racing shut down its NASCAR operations. Speaking to the media in the lead-up to the closure, Stewart commented, as previously reported by Newsweek Sports:”I don’t know that it’s even bittersweet. It’s more bitter than sweet, I feel like,” Stewart said. “It’s a tough decision, but things in life change. Your priorities change, and variables outside of your control change as well.”NASCAR… you and I have been around it for a long time.”It is not what it used to be. It is drastically different than what it used to be. And that’s ok for some people, and for some people it’s not. I guess I’m one of those people.”
