Violent crime runs in the family of the 14-year-old Newark boy charged with gunning down Detective Joseph Azcona in a flurry of bullets earlier this month, sources and the boy’s own relatives told The Post this week.
The unidentified teen’s mom, Rabiyah Sorey, 43, has been a known drug dealer on her block of North Ninth Street for years, the source said. Her twin sister, Hadiyah Sorey, 43, is her “partner in crime” and runs the family business with her, the source added.
“That’s a really, really bad family,” the source said. “They’ve all been arrested for weapons charges.”
The teen’s mom was a known member of the Bloods gang when she was picked up in a 2010 drug raid at her home and has been arrested dozens of times for dealing cocaine, crack and other drugs, the law enforcement source said.
“Her and her sister run the drugs in the area,” the source added. “They’re the boss of that area. That’s what he grew up with.”
His aunt, however, boasted to The Post she makes $4,000 a day selling drugs.
“I got the whole north behind me,” Hadiyah Sorey said of her area, Newark’s North Ward. “I do what the f–k I wanna do.”
His aunt said the teen has been in Newark for just six months after moving from Georgia where he played basketball and football at a high school. He has been arrested multiple times for serious crimes, including robbery, he source said.
“I told her to leave him down there, because he’d be better off,” she said. “This is why I didn’t want him coming to Newark.”
She insisted to The Post that she tries to keep area kids out of trouble — but seemingly only to save her own hide.
“You don’t want the f–k–g cops here,” she said she’s instructed them. “They’re bad for business.”
