The Allegany County Sheriff’s Office and Maryland Center for Missing and Unidentified Persons’ Facebook pages reposted the call to find Parker. This is not the first time Parker has been reported missing in the area. On October 7, the Cumberland Police issued an alert searching for the 12-year-old. She was reported as safe a day later, on October 8.Sergeant Fickes of the Cumberland Police Department told Newsweek: “It looks like [Parker has] been missing five times in this calendar year.””Basically, the circumstances are that she has permission to go somewhere in this city, either to an activity to a friend’s house, and she just hasn’t come home,” Fickes said.Fickes told Newsweek that after each apprehension, “we get her, and we take her home, and we try to get some counseling and some family services there for her, but they don’t always work at times.”The Amber alert system is used widely throughout the United States to help recover children who have been determined missing. The alerts can be issued on a state-wide or local scale, and more than one child can be involved in the case. The system, which stands for America’s Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response, dates back to 1996 when Dallas-Fort Worth broadcasters worked with the local police to develop a warning system to find abducted children, and later, other states and communities soon set up their own plans.Do you have a story we should be covering?
