The business is led by Sarah Bird, a longtime Seattle executive who was a leader at SEO software startup Moz for nearly 14 years, including seven as CEO.

The Series A funding round was led by Trilogy Equity Partners, a venture capital firm based in Bellevue, Wash. Other investors included Foundry Group, Acquired Wisdom Fund, GC&H Investments and Frontier VC.

Bird took the role of chief executive of Canvas in April 2024. The company is Denver based, but its 50-employee, global team operates fully remotely.

Canvas got its start in 2008 as Occipital, which worked on 3D sensing, virtual reality, hardware products and other technologies. In 2022 the company pivoted, narrowed its focus and relaunched as Canvas.

“This is a fresh start with a 100% software-focused business and an energized leadership team and investor base,” Bird said by email.

During her time at Moz, Bird helped the company navigate its 2021 sale to email marketing company iContact, which is a subsidiary of J2 Global.
