Vikas Mehta, a seasoned finance leader with experience at companies such as PayPal and Microsoft, has recently joined Seattle-based digital remittance provider Remitly as the CFO. Founded in 2011, Remitly allows people to easily send and receive money across borders using mobile technology, catering to immigrants residing in the U.S. and U.K. who support family members in countries like the Philippines, India, and El Salvador. The company, which employs over 2,700 people globally, went public in 2021 and reported revenue of $306.4 million in the second quarter of 2022, showing a 31% year-over-year increase.

Mehta sees a massive opportunity for Remitly’s growth and success, particularly in investing in AI and technology to enhance its services further. Prior to joining Remitly, Mehta served as CFO at Komodo Health, a healthcare software company based in the Bay Area, and has also been involved with Seattle logistics startup Flexe. Mehta holds an MBA from the University of Washington and is excited about the potential for Remitly’s continued expansion and innovation in the global remittance market.

In other regional tech industry news, Zillow Group has appointed Soumya Tulloss as its senior vice president of agent sales. Tulloss brings a wealth of experience from her previous roles at companies like Twilio, PayPal, and Google, and is expected to drive innovation and strategic investments in Zillow’s agent community. Nigel Sharp, co-founder of Aquagga, a startup focused on eliminating hazardous PFAS chemicals, has transitioned from CEO to advisor, with his fellow co-founder and COO, Chris Woodruff, stepping in as the new interim president and CEO.

Additionally, Seattle-based health tech startup Proprio has welcomed Bryan Humbarger as its chief commercial officer. Humbarger has a background in the medical device industry and is known for his work with companies such as Eko and AliveCor. In another appointment, Lāth Carlson has been named executive director and CEO of the National Nordic Museum in Seattle, marking his return to the city after serving as the executive director of the Living Computers Museum + Labs. Vasudevan Sundarababu has been appointed CEO of Centific, an AI services company in the Seattle area, after previously holding the role of chief data and AI officer.

Furthermore, Rose Kaz, a startups consultant and executive producer, has been named executive director of The Portland Metro Region Innovation Hub, an organization aiming to support entrepreneurs in the Portland, Oregon area. These personnel changes highlight the ongoing growth and development within the Pacific Northwest tech industry, with experienced leaders taking on new roles and driving innovation in various sectors, from digital remittance and real estate to healthcare technology and environmental sustainability.
