Mahee Chandrasekhar, a 9th grader at Redmond High School in Redmond, Wash., won the Washington state title in Google’s “Doodle for Google” contest. Her submission, titled “Small but Mighty,” was selected from tens of thousands of entries. In response to the prompt, “My wish for the next 25 years,” Mahee focused on the importance of honoring pollinators who play a crucial role in making the world a better place.

Throughout her life, Mahee has been passionate about art and expressing herself through various mediums such as science and technology. Her father, Chandrasekhar Goka, mentioned that Mahee has been an artist from a young age and enjoys creating art that ranges from abstract to real. Her dedication to bringing awareness to environmental issues and protecting ecosystems for future generations is evident in her submission to the contest.

As a nature lover, Mahee took inspiration from observing bees at a local organic farm and witnessing how they help in pollinating flowers that eventually grow into fruits, nuts, and vegetables. She realized the interconnectedness of ecosystems and how they influence our survival and growth as a society. By focusing on the importance of protecting these ecosystems, Mahee hopes to contribute to the well-being and vitality of society in the next 25 years.

In addition to being named the Washington state winner, Mahee received Google hardware and swag as recognition for her achievement. The annual “Doodle for Google” contest provides young artists with the opportunity to showcase their creativity and talent on a national platform. Last year’s contest winner, Rebecca Wu from Bellevue, Wash., also received a $30,000 college scholarship and a $50,000 technology grant for her school in addition to having her artwork featured on Google’s homepage.

Mahee’s dedication to highlighting the significance of pollinators and ecosystems in her submission reflects her commitment to environmental conservation and sustainability. Her artistic talent and thoughtfulness in addressing real-world issues have earned her recognition and praise from Google and her community. By using her art as a platform for raising awareness about important topics, Mahee hopes to inspire others to take action and make a positive impact on the world in the next 25 years.
