Black+Decker has recalled two million of their steamers due to reports of burn injuries caused by hot water expelling, spraying, or leaking during use. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission issued the recall after more than 80 reports of injuries. In November 2022, over 500,000 steamers were recalled, and this number has now expanded to include an additional 1.6 million units. Since the original recall, there have been 317 reports of hot water expelling from the steamers, resulting in 82 reported burn injuries, including seven second-degree burns.

The recall noted that 94 of the 317 reported incidents occurred with models that were repaired following the 2022 recall or had an updated design. All BLACK+DECKER Model HGS011 Easy Garment Steamers are included in the recall, which were sold in various colors. Customers are advised to check the model numbers and UPC codes printed on the steamer or its packaging to determine if their unit is affected. The model numbers included in the recall are HGS011F, HGS011S, HGS011, and HGS011T, with corresponding UPC codes listed for verification.

Customers who own one of the recalled steamers are instructed to stop using it immediately and contact Empower Brands for a refund. Some customers may have received a replacement upper assembly as part of the 2022 recall, and they are also eligible for a refund. The affected steamers were sold both in stores and online at retailers such as Walmart, Target, Amazon, Bed Bath & Beyond, and others. They were available for purchase between June 2021 and February 2024, with prices ranging from $14 to $23.

The recall serves as a cautionary measure to prevent further burn injuries caused by the malfunction of the steamers. With reports of hot water expelling during use, the potential for harm to the user was deemed too significant to overlook. By expanding the recall to include an additional 1.6 million units, Black+Decker aims to protect their customers from any potential harm that may arise from using these defective steamers. Customers are urged to take immediate action to ensure their safety.

The inclusion of previously repaired models and those with updated designs in the reported incidents highlights the importance of addressing this issue promptly. Despite efforts to correct the problem, the steamers continue to pose a risk to users, leading to burn injuries in a significant number of cases. By offering refunds to affected customers and emphasizing the need to stop using the steamers immediately, the company prioritizes consumer safety and aims to prevent further injuries from occurring.

In conclusion, the recall of two million Black+Decker steamers serves as a reminder of the potential dangers associated with defective products. The reports of burn injuries caused by hot water expelling from the steamers underscore the urgency of addressing this issue to protect consumers. By offering refunds and highlighting the specific models and UPC codes affected, Black+Decker aims to assist customers in identifying and returning the recalled steamers. It is crucial for individuals who own these steamers to take immediate action to prevent any further injuries and prioritize their safety.
