Jim Chilton, a rancher in Arizona, has seen a surge in migrant crossings on his ranch, which he attributes to the ongoing border crisis and the Biden administration’s decision to halt construction on the border wall started by Trump. While Trump built over 450 miles of border wall during his presidency, Biden’s administration abruptly stopped construction in 2021, leaving areas on the Chilton ranch open or with easy-to-traverse barriers. Chilton is furious about this decision, stating that the wall is effective in preventing illegal crossings.

Since Biden took office, the crisis at the border has escalated, with record high apprehensions being recorded. Chilton has personally tracked over 3,560 suspected illegal immigrants on his ranch through cameras set up in the area. He is particularly concerned about individuals crossing in camouflage and trying to avoid detection, as they may be involved in criminal activities such as smuggling drugs or gang activity. The dangers for migrants crossing in such harsh conditions are severe, with many facing dehydration and other risks in the desert environment.

Chilton, who opposes illegal immigration but doesn’t want people to die on his ranch, has set up water sources for his cattle that migrants can access to avoid dehydration. He believes that the Biden administration’s policies have made it more desirable for migrants to come to the United States, citing reports of free travel, bank cards, medical care, and housing being provided to them in some parts of the country. Chilton questions why resources are being allocated to undocumented immigrants rather than creating jobs for American citizens in need.

While Trump has promised to resume mass deportation operations and complete the wall if re-elected, the Biden administration has focused on expanding lawful pathways while implementing consequences for illegal entry. Border crossings have decreased by over 50% since June, following Biden’s executive order limiting entries into the U.S. Chilton, who has owned the ranch since the early 1990s, carries a gun for safety while patrolling his property, as he is aware of the risks posed by some migrants who seek to avoid detection.

Chilton is calling for Trump to be re-elected so that the wall construction can be completed and border security can be strengthened. He believes that the wall is necessary to prevent illegal crossings and protect both his property and the surrounding area. Despite the challenges he faces on his ranch, Chilton remains vigilant in monitoring for illegal activity and ensuring the safety of both his cattle and any migrants he may encounter.
