Former President Donald Trump’s recent comments on abortion, particularly his opposition to Florida’s ban on abortions after six weeks’ gestation, have sparked a backlash from pro-life advocates on social media. The former President’s statements have been seen as a betrayal of the pro-life movement, with many expressing disappointment and anger over his views. Despite this, supporters like John Cardillo still plan on voting for Trump but are willing to criticize him when necessary.

Former Vice President Mike Pence, who is known for his pro-life stance, also took to social media to affirm his beliefs. Georgia-based radio host Erick Erickson criticized Trump for dividing the GOP and taking the focus away from other important issues. Many users expressed concern over Trump’s apparent shift on abortion and his potential support for a Soros-funded unrestricted abortion amendment in Florida.

The backlash against Trump’s comments has also extended to his former rival, Republican Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who signed the ban on late-term abortions into law. DeSantis’ spokesperson argued that Amendment 4, which Trump seemed to indicate he may support, would permit late-term abortions, eliminate parental consent, and open the door to taxpayer-funded abortions. Conservative commentator David Limbaugh continues to support Trump but calls for more pro-life advisors in his inner circle.

Trump has faced criticism from anti-abortion activists for his statements regarding women’s reproductive rights and his refusal to restrict access to abortion prescriptions. He has also expressed opposition to a federal abortion ban and has indicated that he would leave abortion access up to the states following the overturning of Roe v. Wade. Despite this, Trump remains opposed to late-term abortions and has included IVF treatment subsidies in his campaign promises.

The debate over abortion and Trump’s stance on the issue continues to divide voters, with some warning that he risks losing pro-life supporters unless he changes his tune. While Trump has expressed a desire for more time before making a decision on Florida’s Amendment 4, he reiterated the importance of exceptions in abortion policies. His campaign maintains that he has not yet revealed how he will vote on the ballot initiative, emphasizing that he believes six weeks is too short for restrictions on abortion.
