Prince Archie, the eldest child of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, celebrated his fifth birthday in May. With the recent accession of their grandfather, King Charles III, to the throne, increased attention has been drawn to Archie and his younger sister, Princess Lilibet. The siblings visited Britain in the summer of 2022 to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s 70 years on the throne. Following the monarch’s death, Archie is sixth and Lilibet is seventh in the line of succession to inherit the British throne.

Archie, who was born in London in 2019, spent the majority of his first year living in Britain with his parents while they were still working members of the monarchy. In the Fall of 2019, Harry and Meghan took their four-month-old son on an official royal tour of South Africa, where they met with Archbishop Desmond Tutu in Cape Town. Despite Harry and Meghan’s efforts to keep their children out of the public eye, the inclusion of Archie on the royal tour generated excitement among royal fans eager to see the young prince.

Footage from the royal tour of South Africa resurfaced on TikTok, showing Prince Archie with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle during a visit to Cape Town. In the video, the couple proudly held their infant son in front of press cameras, with Meghan and Archie dressed in matching shades of blue. The viral clip has garnered over 1.4 million views and thousands of positive comments praising the royal family. Despite the positive media coverage of the tour, Meghan revealed in a 2022 podcast discussion with Serena Williams that there was a fire in Archie’s nursery while they were on the trip.

Upon returning to Britain after the tour, Harry and Meghan traveled to Canada for a family vacation. It was during this time that they decided to seek a part-time working arrangement with the monarchy, ultimately leading to their split from the institution in 2020 and their move to the U.S. The Sussex family currently resides in Montecito, California, and has not visited Britain together since 2022. Despite the challenges they have faced, Harry and Meghan continue to prioritize the well-being of their children and their family life.
